What is the IMI WAVES Theme Music Competition?

The IMI WAVES Theme Music Competition Season 1, organized by the Indian Music Industry (IMI) and hosted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, aims to find the “Song of India” that captures the essence and power of Indian music. The competition unfolds in two stages: preliminary and finale.

Eligibility Criteria

* Age: Must be 18 years or older
* Citizenship: Must be an Indian Citizen
* Category: Open to musicians and composers

Rules of the Competition

1. Submission:
* Submissions must be uploaded online via the competition platform.
* Each participant can submit only one application.
* Entries can be individual or from a creative team, but only one member from the team needs to register and represent the team.
* All participants must meet the age requirement.
* Participants must provide all necessary details during registration.
* Sound recordings must be in MP3 or WAV format (high-quality audio preferred) and be between 1 and 2 minutes long.
* Along with the submission, a short video (up to 2 minutes) explaining the creative process and cultural inspiration behind the music, highlighting the use of Indian classical elements, must be shared.
* Participants must adhere to deadlines set by the organizers.
* The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any participant who fails to meet the eligibility criteria or submission guidelines.

* Originality and Creativity
* Relevance to the Theme
* Musicality and Compositional Skill
* Incorporation of Indian Elements
* Sustainability as a Theme

Judging Process:

* A panel of experts from the Indian music fraternity will evaluate the submissions.
* Two rounds of evaluation will be conducted to select the top 6 entries, which will then compete in the final round.
* The organizers’ decisions regarding the competition results are final.
* Submissions must be respectful and celebratory of diverse Indian cultures.
* Participants, their families, friends, or representatives are prohibited from communicating with the judges about the competition decision. Any participant found engaging in such communication may be disqualified or barred from future participation.

Important Dates

* 5th September 2024: Competition rules, terms and conditions, and participation criteria are made available.
* 20th September to 4th October 2024: Registration opens. The Google Form for registration will be made available soon.
* 21st November 2024: Finalists will be announced.
